Overview
Messenger Agent (Telegram) is a Control4 agent that sends messages to Telegram and, when enabled, receives replies back into Control4. Outbound messages are triggered from Programming (events & actions) or the SEND_MESSAGE command; inbound replies raise the Message Received event and populate read-only properties and variables you can use in Programming.
- Send to any chat, group, or channel by numeric
chat_id. - Optionally receive replies — the last inbound message, sender, and chat id are exposed for Programming.
- Optional
HTML/MarkdownV2formatting and link-preview suppression.
Supported messenger: Telegram only. The driver sends over the internet to Telegram; it does not use WhatsApp, Viber, SMS, or email.
No 4Sight subscription required. The agent reaches Telegram directly from the controller, so message delivery does not depend on Control4’s cloud services or a 4Sight subscription. Owners get reliable alerts on their phones whether or not the project carries 4Sight.
A modern replacement for SMS alerts. Control4 systems used to text the owner about system events through carrier email-to-SMS gateways. Mobile carriers have largely shut those gateways down, so that style of notification no longer arrives. This agent restores owner-facing messaging — push notifications straight to the Telegram app on any phone, free and reliable — carrying alerts from the Control4 system to the owner or customer.
